A loose screw or a wobbly hinge is the easiest Maui Jim repair to do yourself. It takes a small screwdriver, the right screw and about five minutes, so you can fix Maui Jim sunglasses at home whenever the cause is a screw. Cracked or scratched lenses, broken frames and snapped temples are a different story. Those need Maui Jim's own repair service or an authorized retailer.
This guide sorts your problem into one of those two groups. It shows the home fix step by step, then covers what Maui Jim's repair service handles, what it costs and how long it takes. The prices and policies below come from Maui Jim's official pages, checked in October 2026.
Which Maui Jim repairs can you do at home?
Most Maui sunglass repair jobs fall into two groups. Anything that comes down to a screw is a home fix. Anything that involves a lens, a broken frame or a snapped arm is not.

How to fix Maui Jims at home: tighten a loose screw or hinge
You do not need special skills to repair Maui Jim sunglasses when the problem is a hinge screw. Hinge screws are tiny. Every time you fold and open the arms, they turn a little. After months of daily use, they work loose. That is why a pair that fit well last year now slides or clicks.
SnapIt Screw has you covered for this job. You need a small screwdriver that fits the screw head, a soft cloth and, if a screw has gone missing, a spare screw. The SnapIt Screw Standard repair kit and Premium repair kit both come with a double-ended screwdriver (plus and minus heads) and 5 different sized, color-coded screws. The screws are stored inside the screwdriver, so you can carry the whole kit in a bag or glove box.
Steps to tighten a loose hinge
- Lay a towel or soft cloth on a table. Tiny screws roll away, and a hard surface can scratch the lenses.
- Open the arms and find the screw at each hinge, where the arm meets the front of the frame.
- Pick the end of the screwdriver that fits the screw head, plus or minus. The tip should sit snug in the head. A loose-fitting tip slips and damages the screw.
- Turn clockwise in small turns. Stop as soon as the screw feels snug. Do not crank it.
- Open and close the arm a few times. It should move smoothly, with no wobble, and stay where you leave it.
- Repeat on the other hinge, then try the sunglasses on.

Stop if the screw spins without tightening, if the screw head is damaged, or if the arm will not open or line up. Do not force it, and do not bend the frame to make it fit. Forcing can crack a frame or a lens. At that point, the Maui Jim repair service or an optician is the safer route. Skip glue, too. It can lock the parts together and make a later repair harder.
If your hinge is a spring type or a metal hinge you have not seen before, this guide to how sunglasses hinges are repaired shows what to expect. The same approach works on other brands, as in our post on fixing Ray-Ban sunglasses at home.
What if a hinge screw is missing?
A missing screw is the one part you can replace yourself. At the time of writing, Maui Jim's FAQ says it does not send out parts for its sunglasses. Maui Jim sunglasses parts such as lenses and frame components are fitted by its technicians when you send the pair in. If you were hoping to order Maui Jim sunglasses replacement parts, a hinge screw is the exception, and a repair kit covers it.
Screw sizes vary by model, so match the size rather than guess. Start the replacement screw by hand. It should turn in easily for the first few turns. If it feels tight or grinds, back it out and try the next size in the kit. This screw size guide explains how sizes differ.
Once you know your size and color, the Screw Refill pack is how most customers top up. It comes in sizes XS to XL, from 1.2mm to 1.7mm thread width. Maui Jim sunglasses spare parts are mostly a screw question, so a few spares in your case save you a trip.
Which Maui Jim repairs need Maui Jim's service?
Any Maui Jims repair that involves more than a screw is a job for the brand. Maui Jim says frame, lens and temple damage must be shipped to its repair facility. These problems are outside what a screwdriver can do:
- Scratched or cracked lenses
- A broken frame, including a snapped bridge or hinge
- A broken or detached arm (temple)
- A frame bent so far it will not adjust back

Our kits tighten and replace screws. They do not fix lenses, scratches, cracks or bent frames, and SnapIt Screw does not sell lenses. If you searched for Maui Jim refurbishing or Maui Jim replacement lenses, that work goes through Maui Jim's repair department. How Maui Jim's repair service works
A Maui Jim sunglass repair through the company follows the same steps each time.
- Start on Maui Jim's repair page and fill in the repair form. At the end you get a PDF to print and put in the box with your sunglasses.
- Every repair is checked for warranty coverage before any charges are processed.
- Maui Jim only repairs with parts from 100% authentic Maui Jim sunglasses, for both frame and lens repairs.
- Prescription pairs may need to go through an authorized optical retailer, whether it is sunglasses or a Maui Jim glasses repair for eyeglasses. The repair form explains how.
- If you want a faster turnaround, a local authorized Maui Jim retailer can order most parts and do the work in house. Retailers may charge extra fees for the service or shipping.
Maui Jim repair cost, warranty and turnaround
These are the US prices for the repairs Maui Jim lists on its support site. Taxes apply on top, and Canada has its own prices. To confirm the price for your style, check Maui Jim's repair page.
- Non-prescription lenses: $75, replaced as a pair
- Frame: $40 to $95, depending on the style
- Temple, with no frame damage: the part is free
- Standard processing fee: $15 on every repair
- Nose pads: most styles are sent free through the repair form. Some styles must be sent in, and those carry the $15 processing fee
The warranty runs two years from the purchase date. It covers defects in materials and workmanship for the original purchaser who bought from an authorized retailer. It does not cover normal wear, scratched lenses or accidental breakage. Maui Jim says it has never offered a lifetime warranty, and you pay the shipping to its repair facility.
If your pair is under two years old and something looks defective, contact Maui Jim before you try a repair. Maui Jim evaluates warranty claims at its own facility, and its warranty is void if the original lenses or frames are altered.
Once your sunglasses arrive, the typical repair takes 5 to 7 business days. Return shipping usually takes 7 business days or less, and you can pay for expedited return shipping.
How to stop Maui Jim screws from loosening again
- Check the hinge screws every few weeks. A quick turn with the screwdriver catches a loose screw before the arm starts to wobble.
- Open and close the arms with both hands instead of pulling one side.
- Wipe the lenses with a clean lens cloth and keep the sunglasses in a case when you are not wearing them.
- Keep the repair kit where you keep the sunglasses, in a bag, a car or a travel pouch.
If you want the care items in one box, the Ultimate Care Kit has 2 repair kits, 1 lens cloth, 1 Case Companion and 1 lens spray.
